Both Update companies specialize in information management with an emphasis on providing systematic solutions to complex problems. The professional staff has a solid working knowledge of all facets of organizational information including records management, law library management, knowledge organization, information retrieval, knowledge management and systems management.

The support staff includes field employees who service clients in the areas they live, plus a fully equipped office that operates between 9AM to 5PM, Monday through Friday. All employees are permanent workers, assigned to specific accounts and specific tasks. The average employee stays with the company for over 10 years!

Ms. Empel is the President of Records Update, a women-WBE certified company, which provides professional consulting, as well as information and records management support services to corporations, law firms, universities, not-for-profits, and government organizations in New York, New Jersey, southern Connecticut, and eastern Pennsylvania. Ms. Empel has 32 years of experience in the information management profession.

Ms. Empel has a Bachelors in Business Administration (BBA); Masters in Library and Information Science (MLIS); Graduate Certificate in Advanced Studies in Archives and Records Management; and a Graduate Certificate in Healthcare IT Management. She is a Certified Records Manager (CRM), Certified Document Imaging Architech (CDIA+) and provisionally Certified Archivist (CA). She is also a Ph.D. candidate in Information Studies at Long Island University and is expected to complete her dissertation in a records management related topic by May 2011.

Sofia Empel is a member of the Association of Records Managers and Administrators (ARMA International); Association for Information and Image Management (AIIM); American Society for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T); Society of American Archivists (SAA); Law Library Association of Greater New York (LLAGNY); American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA); and Health Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS).

Lucy Rieger, MLS, CRM

Ms. Rieger is President of Library Update, a women-owned WBE certified company, which provides consulting and support services to corporations, law firms, accounting firms, universities, government agencies, and not-for-profit organizations that need to manage their information. She started Library Update in 1977 and has employed a hands-on approach to the management of operations from her very first day in business.

Ms. Rieger earned her Masters in Library Science (MLS) from Rutgers University and is a certified records manager (CRM). She served as the President of the New Jersey Law Librarians Association and she was a speaker at a national conference for the American Association of Law Librarians. She published articles about workflow and electronic resources in professional journals and newspapers, and compiled policy and procedure manuals for various organizations.

Lucy Rieger is a member of the Association of Records Managers and Administrators (ARMA International); Association for Information and Image Management (AIIM); American Association of Law Librarians (AALL); Special Libraries Association (SLA); and New Jersey Law Librarians Association (NJLLA), President 2007-2008.
